We had so much fun doing Mandolin Music for Medieval Faires we thought it would be fun to do a similar collection for Renaissance Faires. As always we try to entice you and addict you to the music. From the joyful song McConnell´s House to the regal Alman, we present 22 wonderful tunes that make this collection of Renaissance music a must have. You will find tunes in this collection that you won't be able to stop playing. You will find tunes that reflect an era of rebirth such as The Woods so Wild. From easy to challenging pieces Mandolin Music for Renaissance Faires will become a classic for your mandolin repertoire.
In this collection of music I recommend, with the more difficult pieces such as Treble from the Board Lute Book and The Woods So Wild, to start off practicing the pieces slowly and gradually increase your speed. I practiced playing individual lines over and over again until I got a smooth sound. If you have a metronome play with it. It certainly helps in keeping time and increasing speed. If you don't have one get one and have someone who has used it to show you how to practice with one. Its a great tool in improving your skills as a mandolinist. In this collection I used my Weber Aspen 2 mandolin for recording the pieces. You can hear my mandolin at SoundClick

The music is presented in both music notation and mandolin TAB (for people that do not read music). The music notation is clear and crisp. This book will help you to learn the tunes quickly whether you depend on the tablature or the music.
The CD, played by Aleksandra & Allan Alexander, gives the musician the advantage of being able to hear how these songs can be played and will make the learning process easier. This is a high quality Digital recording (DDD). In addition to helping the player become familiar with the music, it will also be a source of listening pleasure. You can also turn down either channel (mandolin or guitar) and play along with the CD.
If you play the mandolin, this is a must have book/cd collection. These Renaissance pieces sound great on the mandolin. They also lay right under the fingers. There is both notation and TAB and no page turns for any of the pieces in this book. The reason? This book is made for musicians, by musicians. The book comes with a CD and the guitar and mandolin are separate tracks. You can turn the mandolin off and play with the cd. There are no "Tick Tick" before the pieces, instead there are two measures of intro with the guitar, so you can sit and listen to the CD and become familiar with the sounds of the pieces without it sounding like a learning CD. There are chords with the music and at the end of the book, there are examples of what the guitar is doing for many of the tunes in both tablature and notation. These tunes sound terrific, and are a great addition to any repertoire. You can use them for any kind of gig, or you can try doing some Renaissance fairs, Renaissance feasts or Renaissance weddings. The bowl back mandolin looks so much like the lute, most people would never know the difference. I play lute, guitar and more recently mandolin. I know the music. These pieces are particulary suited for the sound of the mandolin. I love playing them. The book is beautiful and scored professionally. The paper is heavy stock. The titles may not make a lot of sense, but these are great pieces. Many have variations to make them longer.
