I dont think you will be able to stop playing Cantiga 119 for a very very long time. This piece will be with you for the rest of your life. and personally I think just Cantiga 119 is worth the price of the this book. I believe this is the best collection of Medieval music we have done to date. This collection will be at your side whenever you are with your mandolin. Once you have worn out your fingers with Cantiga 119, be sure to try the the two Canons, Marium Matrum, and Dance Before Dawn. This collection will introduce you to a new level of syncopation and you will become a better mandolin player simply because you wont be able to stay away. The beautiful drawing on the cover was done by Aleksandra. Read some Feedback

The music is presented in both music notation and mandolin TAB (for people that do not read music). The music notation is clear and crisp. This book will help you to learn the tunes quickly whether you depend on the tablature or the music.
The CD, played by Aleksandra & Allan Alexander, gives the musician the advantage of being able to hear how these songs can be played and will make the learning process easier. This is a high quality Digital recording (DDD). In addition to helping the player become familiar with the music, it will also be a source of listening pleasure. You can also turn down either channel (mandolin or guitar) and play along with the CD.
If you play the mandolin, this is a must have book/cd collection. These medieval pieces sound great on the mandolin. They also lay right under the fingers. There is both notation and TAB and no page turns for any of the pieces in this book. The reason? This book is made for musicians, by musicians. The book comes with a CD and the guitar and mandolin are separate tracks. You can turn the mandolin totally off and play with the cd. There are no "Tick Tick" before the pieces, instead there are two measures of intro with the guitar, so you can sit and listen to the CD and become familiar with the sounds of the pieces without it sounding like a learning CD. There are chords with the music and at the end of the book, there are examples of what the guitar is doing for many of the tunes in both tablature and notation. These tunes sound terrific, and are a great addition to any repertoire. You can use them for any kind of gig, or you can try doing some medieval fairs, medieval feasts or medieval weddings. The bowl back mandolin looks so much like the lute, most people would never know the difference. I play lute, guitar and more recently mandolin. I know the music. These pieces are particulary suited for the sound of the mandolin. I love playing them. The book is beautiful and scored professionally. The paper is heavy stock. The titles may not make a lot of sense, but these are great pieces. Many have variations to make them longer.
