The Elson's Musical Dictionary published in 1905
defines a Partita as "The Earliest form of the instrumental
suite. The partita had fewer movements than the suite and was treated
in a freer manner. The facsimile that I have contains two partitas.
They are similar to lute suites but neither contain a fugue. I have
included the Fugue as an adendum if you wish to play it.
If you are looking for a great edition of Bach which
you will be able to learn and perform, this is the book for you. It
is carefully fingered and this is some of the best solo Bach I have
ever heard. I have spent a lot of time carefully arranging and
fingering this music so it will flow. This is a very manageable
collection which you will be able to play with time. These pieces are
a joy to play. When you hear the syncopation of the Fantasia, the
beauty of the Sarabande, the playfulness of the Gigue and the
excitement of the Double, you will know you have a collection that
will last you your lifetime.
